Action of Autonomic Drugs on the Isolated Strip from Ileum of Ditrema temmincki Bleeker

Abstract
The author studied the action of autonomic drugs on the isolated strip from ileum and the results obtained were summarized as follows:
1. The isolated ileum of the fish was relaxed by epinephrine, norepinephrine, isoproterenol and phenylephrine.
2. The inhibitory effect of phenylephrine on the fish ileum was blocked by phenoxybenzamine.
3. The intestinal inhibitory effect of isoproterenol was blocked by propranolol.
4. The effects of norepinephrine and epinephrine on the fish ileum were usually not blocked by either kind of blocking agent alone, but blocked by the combinations of adrenergic alpha blocking
agent and beta blocking agent. It is, therefore, concluded that the fish ileum has both alpha and beta receptors, and that both receptors mediate relaxation or inhibition.
5. The isolated ileum of the fish was contracted by acetylcholine and physostigmine. The contracting action of these drugs was antagonized by atropine.
6. The isolated ileum of the fish was contracted by nicotine or DMPP. The contracting effects of these drugs were abolished by pretreatment with hexamethonium or atropine. It is, therefore, concluded that there are ganglion cells furnished with cholinergic fiber in the ileum of the fish.
